Andrew E. Moores
Director of Training
Andrew Moores is well known and highly respected with regards to his work with personal safety, threat assessment and violence prevention programs for children, women and men. He has been involved with the martial arts for 12 years and has found much success in the tournament arena with most recently finishing 2nd in Kumite (sparring) and 1st in Kata (forms) at the World Uechi Championships. Also, Mr. Moores finished first at the 2003 Tsuruoka Canadian National Championships in Kata (forms) and was a proud member of the United States team which finished 2nd in team Kumite (sparring).
Mr. Moores is a member of Blauer Tactical Systems' Personal Defense Readiness (PDR) team. Personal Defense Readiness is a state of the art personal protection and life enhancing system that increases the students awareness, fear management capacity, verbal diffusion skills and ability to defend themselves in the street. Blauer Tactical Systems is one of the world's leading consulting groups for combative and defensive tactics training. For over 20 years, Blauer Tactical has been involved in the research, development and design of programs for civilians, law enforcement and military trainers.
Stephen Perry
Chief Technical Director
Stephen Perry began his study of Uechi-Ryu Karate in 1986 and has been promoted through the black belt ranks by the Uechi Karate Association in Okinawa, Japan. He currently holds the rank of Godan (5th) degree black belt. Mr. Perry is a certified instructor registered with the Uechi Karate Association and is widely recognized as one of the finest teachers of Karate in the country. He has conducted seminars for other school owners on the subject of teaching and motivating students in the martial arts. He also practices the art of Brazilian Jujitsu and holds a blue belt in that discipline.
Mr. Perry has competed both nationally and internationally. In 1997, he was invited to represent the United States in the Eastern Japan Karate Championships held in Tokyo, Japan, where he placed 1st in the Kata (forms) competition. In 2003, he represented the United States at the 2003 Pan Am Games in Brazilian Jujitsu. Most recently he won the 2004 Uechi World Championships in Kumite (sparring).
Margaret Chojin
Senior Instructor/Technical Advisor
Margaret Chojin began her Karate training in 1979 and holds a 5th degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate with the Uechi Karate Association in Okinawa, Japan. She is also certified by the ACMA as a martial arts instructor and an AFAA certified personal trainer.
A successful tournament competitor, Ms. Chojin took the gold medal in Kata (forms) in the 2000 Bermuda Invitational Championships, the 2000 Uechi World Championships and the 2001 All Okinawin World Karate Championships.
Ms. Chojin is a certified and practicing therapist in Accupressure and Tai Massage.
Rob Morley
Assistant Instructor
Mr. Morley is an assistant instructor at the AKTC and has trained with us since 2003. Prior to arriving at the AKTC, Mr. Morley trained in and obtained black belt ranks in Japanese and Okinawan styles of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do (a sister style to Uechi-Ryu). He also spent several years studying Kenpo Karate. Mr. Morley's experience and "eye for perfection" further serve to round-out the teaching base at the AKTC.
